Traffic Sentinel's ability rapidly locate hosts to the switch interface connecting them to the network makes it possible to eliminate the problem at source. The closer a control can be applied to the source of the problem the more effective it will be. In this case the Interface button provides a link to the management console of the switch and the information needed to disable access for this host. Clicking on the Connections button brings up a real-time chart of this host's activity. This information provides a useful audit trail, since the log files on the host itself may have been deleted when the host was compromised. Further analysis of the traffic can identify additional services that may have been compromised and any communication with other hosts.
Finally, clicking on the Packet Trace link allows detailed packet information to be examined.
