Announcing InMon Traffic Sentinel 8.9

July 2023: InMon Traffic Sentinel 8.9 is now available for download. This is a free upgrade for customers who have purchased annual maintenance.

Previous release: 8.8

New features include:

  1. Bookmark History with Thumbnails
  2. Search Enhancements
  3. Updated Lookup Tables
  4. Juniper Networks IMON Format

Bookmark History with Thumbnails

When a page is bookmarked using the Traffic Sentinel bookmark icon in the top-right corner of the page, a thumbnail image of the page is captued to the Home>Bookmarks page. This thumbmail is clickable. This makes it easier to jump back into a thread of investigation and pick up where you left off or show someone else what you have found. These bookmark thumbnails will persist, but only to the end of the current session. So if you want to keep one for longer then you should add it to your browser bookmarks, or perhaps paste the URL into a chat thread.

Search Enhancements

In the Search>Agent/Interface page, a search that matches no agents will now automatically be resubmitted as an interface search. The interface search (or pattern if you include *) will test against a number of fields including ifName and ifAlias. In this example the search is *wan* and two interfaces match:

Updated Lookup Tables

The lookup tables for locating IP addresses, naming BGP AS numbers and identifying MAC address vendors were brought up to date.

Juniper Networks IMON Format

If sFlow is unavailable on your Juniper router you may be able to fall back on the Juniper "IMON" format, which sends packet samples encoded as IPFIX. Traffic Sentinel will accept this format, and will attempt to fill in missing counters by polling with SNMP.
