InMon Corporation Introduces Industry First Media Speed Gigabit NetFlow Probe
San Francisco, CA – May 7th, 2001 - InMon Corporation, the leader in traffic monitoring for high-speed switched networks based on packet based-sampling technology, introduced today, at Networld and Interop (Booth 4641), the industry’s first media speed Gigabit network probe that generates NetFlow statistics. The InMon sFlow Probe provides network managers with the information they need to ensure that their networks deliver fast and reliable services.
It gives an accurate, real-time view of traffic across the network that is used for traffic accounting/billing, congestion management and the detection and control of denial of service attacks.
The InMon sFlow Probe is a monitor/SPAN port probe capable of continuously monitoring application level traffic flows at a full 1Gigabit (up to 1,500,000 packets per second). Because the sFlow Probe can keep up with fully utilized Gigabit links, it can provide accurate and complete measurements when reliable measurements are most needed.
The InMon sFlow Probe produces full-featured NetFlow v5 generated from sampled data. Offloading NetFlow data generation to the sFlow Probe, allows the switch resources to be dedicated to network traffic forwarding. It also allows switches without NetFlow capability to be monitored.
In addition, the InMon sFlow Probe delivers InMon’s innovative sFlow technology. sFlow combines traffic data with information obtained from the switch about its forwarding decisions. This breakthrough provides full layer 2 – 7 traffic flow monitoring giving unprecedented visibility into the operation of switched networks.
