What is an adaptor?
An adaptor is an Extensible Markup Language (XML) file containing instructions that allows the controller to translate controls into configuration commands for a particular network device.
The adaptors are listed in the table; one row per adaptor. The table has the following columns:
- Name, the name of the adaptor. Typically this will be the brand of equipment that the adaptor was designed to manage.
- Version, a version number associated with the adaptor.
- File, the adaptor file name. Click on the link to see the contents of the file.
- Author, the person or organization responsible for the adaptor.
- # Devices, the number of types of device that the adaptor can configure. Click on the link to see a list of the device types.
- Action, click on the Remove button to remove the adaptor file.
How do I install an adaptor?
You must first put the adaptor file on the computer you are using to access Traffic Sentinel. Next, go to the Controller>Adaptors page and enter the location of the adaptor file into the input box and click Submit. If the file is a properly constructed adaptor file it will be installed and added to the list of adaptors.
How do I remove an adaptor?
Find the adaptor in the list of adaptors and click on the Remove button to delete the adaptor.
How do I see which devices an adaptor supports?
Click on the link in the # Devices column to see a list of the device types that the adaptor supports.
The devices are listed in a table; one row per device type. The table has the following columns:
- Description, a description of the type of device. Usually this will be a product name or product number.
- Priority, indicates whether the device supports priority controls.
- Rate Limit, indicates whether the device supports rate-limit controls.
- Block, indicates whether the device supports block controls.
- sysObjectID, the SNMP sysObjectID associated with the device type. The sysObjectID is used to find the correct adaptor to use when controlling a specific type of device.
